Site VisitWhat are GP Site Visits Site visits are a cruicial activity in the GP recruitment process and can play a part in GP retention. For a GP interested in working in rural and remote NT, a site visit can provide an opportunity to visit the town or community, meet the clinic staff and health service management, view the accommodation, and discuss contractual conditions in person. It allows the GP and their family to immerse themselves in the community context and to gain some understanding of community life prior to relocation. We have found that this is a vital part in GP retention in the Territory. GPNNT supports and encourages the GP to bring their partner or family along as well. Not only does a site visit have benefits for the GP, ir porvides the opportunity for community members, clinic staff and health service management to meet the GP prior to the exchanging of contracts. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Who is eligible for a Site Visit Community government councils, health boards and town based practices located in RRMAs 3 - 7 who are employing an NT registered GP are eligible to receive sit visit support from GPNNT. A total of $3,000 and Workforce Program Officer support and coordination are offered as part of the GP Site Visit Grant. It is a condition of a GP Site Visit that the GP entering into negotiations with the Health Service or Private Clinic, has undergone considerable pre-screening or an interview with GPNNT or the Health Service Manager.
