Relocation

Why GPNNT offers Relocation Grants

Relocation Grants are offered to GPs who have accepted a contract in rural and remote NT. GPNNT have found that offering relocation support reduces some of the barriers that prevent GPs from taking positions in the NT. As the costs involved in relocating to rural and remote NT can be significant, these grants contribute significantly in covering costs associated with moving GP’s and their family as well as belongings.

What the Relocation Grant covers

GPNNT provides a relocation grant to GPs relocating from overseas, interstate or within the Northern Territory to undertake GP practice in rural and remote areas of the NT. As the costs involved in relocating to rural and remote NT can be significant, this grant will cover costs associated with moving the GP, the GP’s family and their belongings to a new position. This includes:

  • Actual costs associated with furniture removal,
  • Reimbursement of airfares,
  • Reimbursement of accommodation for the duration of transit, and
  • Storage of belongings not relocated for the duration of the contract (up to 24 months).

Who can apply?

Grants are available to all GPs relocating to remote areas of the NT, or to another remote community within the NT, who have a contract or commitment to work at least five sessions per week for a minimum of one year and who meet the other grant eligibility criteria.

Application can be made prior to taking up a position or within two months of relocation.

What the grant does not cover

Financial assistance towards repatriation to the home state or location at the completion of a GP employment contract should be negotiated directly with the employer as part of normal contract negotiations. You will appreciate that GPNNT has no jurisdiction or authority with regard to offers of employment, employment contracts or representations made by independent employers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Application Process

GPNNT requires that you complete a GP Grant Application Pack, located on the GP Grants web page; please follow the link provided.

Once the terms of the grant have been agreed upon, a formal contract outlining the funding and administrative conditions of the grant will be made between the GP and GPNNT. Payment will only be made once the starting date of the position has been confirmed and the agreement has been signed.
