Supporting the national eHealth Strategy

The program aims to support and encourage Divisions of General Practice to incorporate eHealth into their core business by developing Division expertise to act as change agents, effective in encouraging and supporting general practices and general practitioners to adopt best practice eHealth tools and systems.

Support
The program objectives are to support eHealth activities locally and nationally and to support GPNNT to achieve:

  • improved Divisional Information Management capacity
  • increased health care professionals eHealth uptake and capacity
  • improved clinical data quality in general practice
  • increased sharing of quality clinical data by general practice
  • improved communications between General Practices, Specialists, Allied Health professional and Primary Health Care organisations via secure messaging tools.
Data Quality Improvement
Clinical Information Systems are often used by Primary Health Care providers to record and focus on individual patient information. By focusing on the entire dataset, it is possible develop data quality improvement strategies that improve the data quality and make it more valuable when shared as part of referrals to other health professionals or as part of shared care repositories such as the Shared Electronic Health Record (SEHR).

The nationally coordinated activities of the eHealth Support Officers aim to meet emerging national standards, while ensuring patient confidentiality remains top priority.
