NT Health Workforce congratulates Dr Bruce Hocking of Wurli Wurlinjang Health Service on being named NT GP of the Year 2012!

Dr Hocking was presented with the NT GP of the Year award by the Hon Kon Vatskalis, NT Minister for Health, at the annual Compass Dinner on Saturday 19 May.

Now in its second year, the award recognises outstanding contributions to clinical welfare and the overall health of the community by General Practitioners in the Northern Territory.

After 25 years in private practice in suburban Adelaide Dr Hocking came to the NT seeking new challenges and discovered a rewarding experience in medical practice.  Since joining the team in Katherine at Wurli Wurlinjang in 2004, he has played a key role in presentations on environmental health to local communities and the provision of well-considered advice on alcohol management to Indigenous leaders and government officials, as well being a mentor and leader to staff, medical students, GP Registrars and others.

NT Health Workforce would like to thank everyone who submitted a nomination, ensuring that the judging committe were presented with an outstanding field of candidates for the award.
